Technical Details of the Slim PS3

By Brian Haworth of Slim PS3

Following the announcement of the Sony’s new Slim PS3 at the Gamescon event, we can look into some of the engineering revisions that have been achieved with the new model.

The new slim model has been completely re-worked. The Cell processor uses a 45nm production process allowing it to run at the same speeds as the older version but use much less power thus generating a lower heat output. The power and cooling systems also see a re-work to give a console that uses a third less power, is 33 percent smaller and is 36 percent lighter compared to the previous generation PlayStation 3.
