Civilization - One of the best PC or PS3 games ever

By Mac Jones of gadgets-4-free

The Civilization Series of PC based computer games by Sid Meier are the greatest games of all time for me. The premise is that you start off with one unit - a settler - and build a city. From this you build more settlers, work the land and build projects in the cities. These projects are either for the benefit of the population such as cathedrals of coliseums or for the benefit of the nation where factories or power stations might be built.

The key to the game is to beat your competitors as there are up to eight other players (or civilizations) doing the exact same thing as you. Over time you will meet these other nations and develop relationships with them. You may become allies and trade goods or you me become bitter enemies and end up at war.

The aim of the game is to become the best civilization. This can be achieved through various means such as war where you conquer all other civilizations, elections where you are voted the world leader or by winning a space race where the your nation is the first to leave earth and colonize another planet.

The game is very complicated and takes a lot of practice to get into but once you've mastered it you will be hooked - it's one of those 'just another turn' games where before you know it it's almost daylight outside!

Civilization IV is the current version and is best played on the PC but there are also versions of the game freely available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS. As the game has been out for a while now you can pick up the complete edition which includes two expansion packs for a really great price.

So whether you've got a PC, PS3 or Xbox 360, get yourself a copy of Civilization IV. Just don't blame me for all the free hours you'll loose.

Never heard of this, is it kind of like the Sims series? I have to admit it sounds intriguing. You can only play so many dress-up games.

It is an awsome game and similar to the Sims in that it is a role-play type game but I'd say it is much more in depth. It takes quite a bit of learning but once you've got it you'll be hooked and keep coming back for more year after year.
